Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I'll share my thoughts on all things OT. Occupational therapy is such a full and rich profession, however what we actually do is sometimes misunderstood. I'll share insights related to my field and paint a picture of what one pediatric occupational therapist considers when supporting families with young children. In a sense, my writing here will offer a glimpse into my "OT brain" that's always on and thinking of ways to live life more fully - both personally and as I support clients.
What does the word occupation actually refer to? According to our national association, AOTA, "Occupations are the activities that people do every day to give their life meaning and purpose." They can happen alone, or with others, and occur in many contexts such as home, school, work, and out in the community. I like to think of occupations as the daily activities and routines that make you who you are. What activities give you a strong sense of identify and contribute to your overall well-being?
I hope this gives some initial food for thought, and I look forward to sharing more soon - thanks for reading!
